RHAR Recommends: Fantasy Books

Hello! Its been a while since I did a recommendation post. I realized I haven’t done a post about fantasy books yet, probably because I don’t usually read fantasy. I prefer paranormal or urban fantasy. I have read quite a few good fantasy books in the past few years though so I figured I would share them. Also all of these are series, because I don’t love standalones, and almost all of these have romance in them.

Infernal War Saga by Hailey Turner

The Infernal War Saga by Hailey Turner is probably my new favorite fantasy book. This was a great world with magic, warring royal siblings, queer love, and so many different POV’s. I highly recommend it if you like queer fantasy sagas.

Mead Mishap by Kimberly Lemming

The Mead Mishap series by Kimberly Lemming is a fun, sexy cozy romance series. I really loved how fun this series was and all the couples within. I have already read this series twice in the past year.

Dragon Kin by G.A. Aiken

The Dragon Kin series by G.A. Aiken is a 9 book series that is filled with dragon shifters, magic, and a fantastic badass human heroines. Aiken is one of my favorite authors and always writes kickass heroines who are deadly. I highly recommend her work, or her work under the name Shelly Laurenston, which are her paranormal romances.

The Scarred Earth Saga by G.A. Aiken

The Scarred Earth Saga by G.A. Aiken is based in the same universe as the Dragon Kin series and features a group of sisters trying to stop their evil sister. I love Aiken’s books and this series is another fantastic one, especially since we have centaurs and kickass heroines who are full of snark.

Crown of Shards by Jennifer Estep

The Crown of Shards series by Jennifer Estep is a action packed trilogy featuring a royal getting revenge against an usurper. These books are filled with some great action, battle scenes, magic, and a great romance.

Gargoyle Queen by Jennifer Estep

The Gargoyle Queen series is a spinoff series of the Crown of Shards series. It focuses on Gemma Ripley, who was introduced in the previous series, and her being a princess and spy. This series also features great battles, magic, and of course a forbidden romance.

Legends & Latte by Travis Baldree

The Legends & Latte series by Travis Baldree were great cozy fantasy books. I was very surprised how much I enjoyed these since they don’t have a ton of action and focus mostly on daily life of Viv. If you like more slice of life fantasy with some mild action, then this series might be for you.

Chronicles of the Warlands by Elizabeth Vaughan

The Chronicles of the Warlands series by Elizabeth Vaughan was the first fantasy romance series that I read when I was a teenager. At that time only the first three books were out and I reread them so many times. Last year I reread the whole series and finally got to read the new books and see how the series ends. If you like fantasy with an arranged marriage/ enemies to lovers story, I highly recommend this series.

Wraith Kings by Grace Draven

The Wraith Kings series by Grace Draven is a fantastic fantasy romance with a arranged marriage between two different species who both consider the other ugly. I really loved the first two books with Brishen and Ildiko, but I also enjoyed the rest of the stories within this series that focus on different characters.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan is one that I only read for the first time in 2022. It was wonderful and I totally understood the hype after reading. If you like YA fantasy and Greek mythology, I highly recommend checking this series out if you haven’t yet.

Graphics Recommendations:

I read a lot of graphic novels that are fantasy. This is actually my main form of fantasy reading. So here are a few fantasy graphics that I loved. Also if you have any recommendations for graphics I should check out, please let me know.

Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe

The Lore Olympus series by Rachel Smythe is a beautiful retelling of Hades and Persephone. I originally found this on Webtoons but I am rereading it as the volumes come out. Also this just series just concluded on Webtoons if you want to read the full series at once.

Hell’s Paradise by Yuji Kaku

The Hell’s Paradise series by Yuji Kaku is a 13 volume series that is about criminals with an assigned executioner being sent to a island to search for the elixir of life. I really love how unique and action packed this series was. Also Gabimaru, the main character, was great and I loved that he is a reformed killing machine and just wants to get back to his wife.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin by Kevin Eastman

As someone who grew up in the 90s, I loved watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I haven’t actually read all of the TMNT graphic novels, but it’s not necessary to understand what happens in The Last Ronin series. The Last Ronin series is heartbreaking but also so well done. If you like the turtles, then this may be a series for you.

Teen Titans by Kami Garcia

I loved watching Teen Titans when I was a teenager and so when I found this series I was excited. Kami Garcia’s Teen Titan’s series is wonderful and gives us a more in depth look at each of the characters. I am excited to see what will happen in this series as more volumes come out.
