3 stars – I liked it

This novella jumps back to the beginning of the Scorpius outbreak. The Brigade is gathering people to help assess threats and hopefully prevent any widespread disasters. They recruit Hugh Johnson to be an analyst for security threats involving nuclear power. But, some events in Hugh’s past prevent the Brigade members from trusting him completely, except for his college friend Eleanor, who helped recruit him.

Hugh and Eleanor’s relationship was very fast paced. They knew each other in college and they had the hots for each other then, but Hugh was a bit of a man whore so he didn’t push after she said no initially, also he didn’t want to ruin their friendship. These two had a very intense, fast paced, and emotion filled romance. In between falling for each other they were dealing with the threat of nuclear disasters and crazy scorpius survivors.

Overall, this was a good novella and I liked learning more about the Brigade. I do hope we get to see more of them in the series soon though because I want to know what they have been dealing with. And I want to check in with our original couple, Deke and Nora.
