4 stars – It was really good

The final showdown between sons and father has finally arrived but Graylan finds his focus split between his devious father and his growing feelings for Evie Mason.

Since this series has started I have been eager for Graylan’s book. Graylan’s people have the unique ability over earth and stone and he is the strongest of them all. Graylan was a great king and a great partner for Evie. He does initially try to keep her at a distance for fear of getting attached but he does wise up eventually. I enjoyed seeing this strong and controlled man relax and be just a man, not a king.

Evie was one of the humans originally captured on the Jupiter expedition. She has spent two years as a prisoner being experimented on and is now struggling to deal with her new abilities. I really liked Evie. She doesn’t let Graylan push her around and frequently reminds him that he is a man, not just a king. I enjoyed their steamy and intense relationship. It was filled with danger and a lot of emotion, which always works for me.

The battle against their father, Zavir, finally happens. He is a ruthless and power hungry man. I wasn’t surprised by how he tried to take over. I was surprised by how they defeated him. It wasn’t what I expected but I do think it was a good ending. I also loved that we got to see the gladiators and cyborgs again. Overall, this was a great ending for this series but I am sad that it is over now.

Trigger warnings: heroine was abducted and experimented on; PTSD; torture discussed;
