When Gary shows up cursed, Mercy and Adam head to Montana to try and figure out what happened and remove the curse. What they don’t expect is to find themselves trapped with strangers in a lodge due to a winter storm powered by magic and trying to stop another end of the world crisis.

Unlike the previous books in this series, this one isn’t focused on fae or vampire concerns and doesn’t involve the whole pack, only Adam and Mercy. Adam and Mercy travel to Montana and find that they are dealing with Norse mythology for a change. This was a very interesting challenge for Mercy and Adam but it was also really interesting with its artifact, upcoming wedding, and the threat of destruction. My favorite thing about this series is that Briggs continues to build out this world with new paranormals and mythologies.

Mercy and Adam have been through a lot in the past few books and their relationship is solid, but we do see the trauma they both are still dealing with. I love that Adam continues to support Mercy and not shelter her from their dangerous life, even when that is what he really wants to do. Mercy is still dealing with the effects of the Soul Taker and because of that Mercy isn’t at her best. While she still is capable, we see how damaging it is for her and that she is really struggling. I hate that Mercy hasn’t really gotten a break since danger came back into her life but am glad that she has such a supportive husband and family.

Overall, this was another great addition to the series. I can’t wait to see what will happen next for Adam and Mercy, especially with Bonarata stalking her. I also want to know more about what is going on with the rest of the pack since we didn’t get a lot of an update on them in this book.
