Title: Moon Called
Author: Patricia Briggs
Series: Mercy Thompson #1
Pages: 295

Mercedes Thompson, aka Mercy, is a Volkswagen mechanic living in the Tri-Cities area of Washington. She is a walker, a being with the ability to shift into a coyote at will, and her next-door neighbor is a werewolf alpha. When the alpha and his daughter are kidnapped, Mercy finds herself stepping in to rescue them.
This is my absolute favorite urban fantasy world. I have been rereading this series since I found it in high school, when only two books were out. Every time there is a new book in this series, I do a reread because I just love revisiting this world.
Mercy is a smart, skilled, and danger prone woman. She always seems to find herself in some kind of supernatural situation. After helping a homeless werewolf find warmth and food, she finds herself pulled into a dangerous situation involving mercenaries, drugs, and trafficking of werewolves. I really love Mercy. She is a tough woman who isn’t afraid to stand up for herself, but she also knows when to ask for help, usually anyways.
This first book does have a lot happening in it, especially with introducing characters and different paranormals. But, I really enjoyed this first glimpse we get of the politics involved with the werewolves, fae, and vampires. I don’t think it’s too overwhelming and it’s just enough to peak my interest in learning more about what is going on in this magical world. And yes, I know I have read this before so it’s not new to me but I think Briggs does a good job at creating an interesting world but not overwhelming you with too much detail.
Overall, this is a wonderful shifter urban fantasy. There is just a hint of romance in this one but it will pick up as the series goes on. I can’t wait to reread the rest of the series and see what I have forgotten.
Trigger Warnings: gore, violence, death, kidnapping, misogyny
I also love this series.. it’s definitely one that you can reread and still adore.

I have been rereading it since 2008 when I found this series in high school. There was only three books at that time. I reread it every time there is a new release.

Lol. Same here. Strange how that happens sometimes..
I always have to reread the first books in a series before I can read the newer releases.. it may take longer but atleast I don’t feel like I’m missing out on my favorite parts. 😋

I do that too with a lot of series. Now that I write full reviews for a lot of my favorite series though it takes some of the need to reread off since I don’t forget as much. I still will reread a lot of them though.

I can see how reviewing them would help with that, still.. It’s fun to get lost in the worlds we already know and love sometimes.

Its my favorite and I own it in multiple formats now. I reread it every time a new book is out, even if it is getting to be a long series.
