RHAR Recommends: Long Romance Series That Are Worth the Read

A purple banner with a spiderweb in the left corner and a ghost reading a purple book in the left corner. The text in the center says: RHAR Recommends: Long Book Series That Are Worth the Read.

Those who have been following me for a while know that I prefer to read series and I love a long series. So I figured I should do a post about some of my favorite series that I think are worth the read. These are all series with 3 or more books, but a lot of them will be 10+. Also I split them up by genres (paranormal, urban fantasy, fantasy, Sci-Fi, and contemporary) and there are queer books in each genre.

Paranormal Romance

Paranormal romance is my absolute favorite genre to read and there were a lot of series I could have added to this list. I could have done a whole post with just paranormal romance but I wanted to include other genres. So here are a few of my favorites.

If you want a few other suggestions though check out my RHAR recommends paranormal posts: Part One and Part Two or check out my paranormal category for all books I have read.

Pride/ Honey Badger Chronicles by Shelly Laurenston

The Pride series by Shelly Laurenston is a 9 book series that is about various shifters finding love and playing sports. This is a very humorous, and a little over the top, series that I reread frequently whenever I need to feel good and laugh.

The spin-off series to the Pride series is the Honey Badger Chronicles, which is currently at five books with more to come. Like the series title says, this is about the honey badgers and the first three books focus on three McKilligan sisters who are part honey badger, then it goes into their friends. I really love this spin-off because the honey badger shifters are crazy and its just over the top fun all around. Also this series has different covers now and the shirtless men are gone.

Psy-Changeling/ Psy-Changeling Trinity series by Nalini Singh

The Psy-Changeling and Psy-Changeling Trinity series is an ongoing series that is currently at 23 books. Technically the Psy-Changeling Trinity is a sequel series but I think you need to read the original Psy-Changeling series to understand everything that is happing in PCT.

This series has all kinds of different shifters, protective men, kickass women, and the psy with all different kinds of abilities. I highly recommend it if you like paranormal romance.

Stay a Spell by Juliette Cross

The Stay A Spell Series by Juliette Cross is seven book series that is completed. It is about a family of sisters who find love, deal with paranormal issues, and make the paranormal world a better, more inclusive place. This series was a surprise for me and with each book I fell more in love with the Savoie sisters and this world. If you like witches, werewolves, vampires, grims, and other kinds of paranormals, I highly suggest this series. Also a spin-off series will be coming out next year featuring their children.

RELIC by Maz Maddox

The RELIC series by Maz Maddox is a five book series about dinosaur shifters. It is also a MM romance. The series is about a band of different dinosaur shifters who are like brothers finding their mates while trying to protect dinosaur artifacts. I really love this series and the whole idea of dinosaur shifters living among us and protecting paleontological digs. If you like shifter MM romances, I highly recommend this series.

Also if you like the series, Maz is writing little bonus short stories that are available through their Patreon and take place after the series ends.

Demonica by Larissa Ione

The Demonica series by Larissa Ione is 21 books long and I believed its finished because there is a new spin-off series. This series is all about demons, gods, and angels and the battle between good and evil. It is one of the most unique demon series I have ever read because it has a very rich world and the demons aren’t all bad people. Also this series includes the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

The new spin-off series, Demonica Birthright, that takes place after the events in this series and involves the children of the couples. There is only one book out at the moment but the second book is suppose to come out at the end of the year.

Monstrous by Lily Mayne

The Monstrous series by Lily Mayne is a ongoing series with 7 books currently. I binged this series when I first read it and I have since reread it. This is a queer post-apocalyptic world that is rich in monsters and filled with wonderful characters. I loved every couple in this series and really can’t wait to see where the series will go in the future. If you love queer monster romances, I highly suggest trying this series.

Urban Fantasy

Urban fantasy is probably my second favorite genre. I love reading about unique worlds that are modern but filled with magic, shifters, etc. and feature the same main character throughout them. Here are a few of my favorites, but a few others can be found here or check out my UF category.

Elemental Assassin by Jennifer Estep

The Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep is a 19 book series, and a few novellas. This is the story of Gin Blanco, an assassin with ice and stone abilities that is known as the Spider. The series covers her many dangerous missions to stop out of control underworld bosses. This is a series that I have been reading since I was a teenager and ever few years I reread it. If you like elemental abilities, a kickass heroine, dangerous villains, and romance, check out this series.

The Others by Anne Bishop

The Others by Anne Bishop is a five book series about a woman named Meg Corbyn who can see the future when her skin is cut. She is on the run and finds sanctuary with the dangerous Others who play by their own rules. The Others in general are fascinating because this is the first paranormal/urban fantasy story I have read where humans are actively prey and are viewed that way. The Others see humans as food and are frequently eaten, and that is described in this. Its just a fascinating and unique take on a shifter and magical world and I highly recommend reading it.

Soulbound by Hailey Turner

The Soulbound series by Hailey Turner is a 7 book series about a mage and a werewolf dealing with gods and the end of the world. I love Jono and Patrick’s story from the very beginning. This is a very action packed series that keeps you on the edge of the seat the whole time. I highly recommend it.

Also, there is now a spin-off series that is the Soulbound Universe books that feature some of the favorite side characters finding love a few years after the events in this series. Currently it has two books but its always possible the author will write more in the future. At least they haven’t said they won’t write more.

Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews

The Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews is a finished ten book series. This is one of those OG 2000’s urban fantasy series and I have been reading this series since I was in high school. This is a post-apocalyptic magical world that waves of technology and magic. Kate is a deadly warrior who has to deal with various issues, including her family.

There is now a spin-off series of Kate’s story: Kate Daniels: Wilmington Years. This takes place a few years after the end of the series and is about them trying to have a non-eventful life. I love that we are getting more of Kate and her adventures.

Hidden Legacy by Ilona Andrews

The Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews is a seven book series that features the Baylor family. The first three books are about Nevada Baylor, the oldest sister, and her man, Conner dealing with elemental extremists, and other issues. The last three books are about her sister Catalina and her beau Alessandro. This series has action, elemental and psychic abilities, and a fantastic romance.

Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews

The Innkeeper Chronicles is currently a six book series and features an galactic innkeeper Dina Demille’s adventures of finding love, keeping aliens a secret from Earth, negotiating with different alien factions, and stopping evil forces at play. The Innkeeper world is a very unique one, like all of Andrew’s books, and I just love the whole concept of an Earth innkeeper for the different alien races.

Night huntress by Jeaniene Frost

The Night Huntress series is a seven book series, but the author has since gone back and written two books from Bones, the main male characters perspective so 9 books now. This features vampire hunter Cat as she deals with her heritage, falls in love, and works for a paranormal military program. This was one of the first UF vampire series that I remember falling in love with as a teenager and I have keep up with it since then.

Fantasy Romance

Fantasy romance is genre that I don’t normally read a lot of but lately I have been finding myself reading more fantasy, which is great because I use to read a lot a a teenager. If you are looking for more fantasy series that I recommend, check out this recommendation post.

Dragon Kin by G.A. Aiken

The Dragon Kin series is a completed 9 book series set in a fantasy world of dragon shifters, centaurs, humans, and magic. It follows a family of dragon shifters as they fall in love, go to war, and fight for the future of their homeland. My favorite thing about this series is all the kickass females that are portrayed.

The Scarred Earth Saga by G.A. Aiken

The Scarred Earth Saga is an ongoing series with 3 books currently out. This is technically a spin-off of the Dragon Kin series, but you don’t need to read it to follow what is happening. This follows a family who’s sister has been fated to be queen but she is evil so they have to fight to stop her. This one features centaurs more than dragons, and still has fantastic kickass heroines.

Mead Mishaps Series by Kimberly Lemming

The Mead Mishaps series is a 4 book series that I believe is completed, but I am not 100% sure of that. This follows a family of sisters falling in love with demons (shifters) and stopping a evil witch. I have read this series twice already in a span of a year and it is just a wonderfully hilarious and steamy series.

Chronicles of the Warlands by Elizabeth Vaughan

The Chronicles of the Warlands is a 7 book series that was also published in the early 2000s and was one the first enemies to lovers/ marriage of convivence book that I remember reading. This series is one that I use to reread a lot as a teenager (which at that point only three books were out), but I recently revisited it and found it just as wonderful as I remembered. So if you like enemies to lovers/ marriage of convivence stories, check this one out.

Sci-Fi Romance

Sci-Fi is probably my third most read genre. I love a good alien romance and if it has action, even better. Also, if you want more recommendations for sci-fi romances, check out my recommendation post.

Intersolar Union by Etta Pierce

The Intersolar Union is a ongoing series that currently has 6 books. This is a series about alien abduction and the humans who were kidnapped finding a new home, finding love, and dealing with alien politics and dangers. This is a series that I recommend anytime I talk about sci-fi romances now. It has kickass heroines, great alien heroes, and a fascinating and unique world.

Galactic Gladiators by Anna Hackett

The Galactic Gladiator series is a completed 12 book series that feature humans being abducted by aliens and then rescued by a gladiator troop. This was my first book and series by Anna Hackett that I read and I have since read all of her books, but this is one that I reread every other year almost. I just really love the world that Hackett created and the characters within it.

Hell Squad by Anna Hackett

The Hell Squad series is a completed 20 book series that is post-apocalyptic, alien invasion romances. This is about a group of survivors in Australia who are trying to stop the alien invasion and reclaim the planet. This was the second series of Hackett’s that I read and it is my favorite out of all of them. This series holds a special place in my heart, especially the Berserker men.

Metahuman Files by Hailey Turner

The Metahuman Files series is a completed 6 book series, with three additional novellas. This is a gay military series featuring a group called Alpha Team, who all have different abilities due to chemical bombs attacks that either kill or activate unknown abilities in people. This series follows Alpha Team falling in love and stopping chemical bomb creators. I love this series and the how it is high action and intense romance.

Contemporary Romance

Contemporary romance use to be something I would read all the time, but lately I haven’t been reading them as much. I still read contemporary but I use it more as pallet cleansers between binging paranormal or UF books. If you want more contemporary romance recommendations, check out this post.

Treasure Hunter Security by Anna Hackett

The Treasure Hunter Security is a completed 8 books series featuring a security company that works on archaeological digs. This features cool archeological digs, kickass heroines and great heroes, and a lot of action to go with the romance.

Team 52 by Anna Hackett

Team 52 is a completed 8 books series that is a spin-off of the Treasure Hunter Security series, but you don’t need to read that series before reading this. This series features a covert military group that protects the world from ancient artifacts that are dangerous to humanity. There is a slight paranormal aspect to this series with the artifacts but it is still a contemporary series.

Hard Ink by Laura Kaye

The Hard Ink series is a completed 6 books series that features military men who are trying to find the truth about their false dishonorable discharge. This was the first series I read that featured a tattoo parlor, and it got me hooked on reading contemporaries with tattoo artists. This is one of my favorite military romances though and I reread it every few years.

Raven Riders by Laura Kaye

The Raven Riders series is a ongoing 5 books series that is a spin-off of the Hard Ink series, but you don’t need to read it before reading this series. This is a motorcycle club that is introduced in the Hard Ink series and its about the members finding love and dealing with various issues.

I hope you enjoyed this post and found some new series to try. Let me know if you have read any of these series or if you have any recommendations for series you think I should try!
