4 stars – It was really good

Auden Scott is the daughter of two ruthless high-gradient telepaths, but she was not the child her parents wanted or expected, even before her brain injury. She struggles with her thoughts and memories, some of which are just blank, and the only thing she knows for certain is that she must protect her unborn baby – the baby that she has no recollection of conceiving.

Like all the Psy-Changeling books, I was instantly sucked into Auden and Remi’s story. Auden is a damaged woman with a spine of steel. She knows things have been done to her without her consent and is determined to get to the bottom of what is going on in the Scott household. Auden’s story was heartbreaking but I loved how she used it to make herself strong and a better mother. Remi is alpha to the newest changeling pack RainFire who instantly takes Auden under his wing when he realizes she is alone and pregnant, even if she is a Psy. Remi was a protective but also sweet and caring alpha who knew just how to take care of each of his people, including Auden.

Remi and Auden have a slow building relationship, even though the sparks are there from the beginning. They have to work through what is going on with Auden’s mind and what the plan is for her child before they commit to each other, which is understandable. I really enjoyed their story and how they worked together to find out what was going on and protect the baby.

Overall, this was another emotional psy-changeling story that I couldn’t put down. I am very interested in seeing what will happen next with the psy network. Hopefully we will also see more of RainFire because I want to know more about some of the top members that we met in this book.

TW: pregnancy, pregnancy complications and birth complications; non-consensual medical procedures; toxic family; death of a parent mentioned; mass death of people including children discussed
