4 stars – It was really good

Justice-Psy Eleri Dias knows the end is near and is determined to atone for past mistakes. She heads to WindHaven territory to hunt down a serial killer and face the man she betrayed as a kid. Falcon wing leader Adam Garrett is extremely protective of his family and clan, especially after losing his parents in such a violent way. He has no forgiveness for the J-psy who betrayed him but the more he learns about Eleri’s past the more his heart begins to bend.

Like all of the books in this series, this was a very emotional, captivating, and a bit gut-wrenching story. From the beginning, we know Eleri’s days are limited but that doesn’t stop her from seeking a little bit of happiness at the end. Eleri was a very interesting and heartbreaking character. She has a successful career hunting serial killers but has been brutally damaged by it and by Reconditioning of Silence. I really liked that she is determined to try and make her last days count and that in the end she didn’t give up.

Adam realized when he met Eleri as a teenager that she was his mate, but at the same time felt betrayed by her. Since then he has hated her but her returning to Raintree forces him to reevaluate his views on his feelings. He realizes how much trauma she went through since they met and how the corrupt Psy system controlled her. While I could understand Adam’s pain at Eleri for what happened, I did like that he quickly forgave the past and worked to move forward in their relationship.

Adam and Eleri’s relationship was beautiful, sweet, and heartbreaking at the same time. We know there is limited time from the very beginning but when shit hits the fan it is gut-wrenching. This book really knew how to hit you in the feels but I really enjoyed it. Their relationship clearly works out in the end but it was questionable there for a little bit. I really enjoy the dynamics of their relationship and how protective and sweet Adam is with Eleri. He really is doing everything he can to worship and take care of her, and I am totally all in for it. Also I loved that this book also has a second surprise couple, and white we don’t get a lot of the details, I loved what we did get.

One of my favorite aspects of this book though is that we finally get to see what the Windhaven clan is like. They have been teased throughout this series but we finally get to see what clan life is like. I really enjoyed that another part of this world is being explored and that we continue to see how all the different groups are starting to work together to survive. Basically, this world continues to be one of my absolute favorite paranormal worlds and I love how rich and complex it is.

Overall, this was another fantastic couple and a great continuation for the series. While the psy-changeling couples can get a little repetitive with their trauma, I think Singh does a great job at having each couple be unique.
