4 stars – It was really good

It’s been a while since I have read a Ghostwalkers book. I have had some issues with Feehan’s work lately but I am happy to say this series is still my favorite of hers.

Jonas “Smoke” Harper was an alpha male who was super protective of his family. I really liked how protective he was of his brothers and Camellia. While he was protective, he also went out of his way to lift Camellia’s self esteem and help her work through her fear of betrayal. His struggle with controlling and understanding what Whitney did to him was very emotional and heartbreaking at times.

Camellia was a fascinating heroine. She had the ability to control plants, heal, and so many other things. Because of her upbringing with Whitney, she struggles to let people close for fear of betrayal. This causes her to keep Jonas at a distance for a while and he helps by repeatedly showing and telling her how much she means to him. I liked Camellia a lot and found her abilities to be some of the most fascinating so far in this series.

Camellia and Jonas’s relationship was an instant love but they slowly worked through their fears over a few days. I really loved the pace of their relationship, especially since they had so much trauma and fear to discuss between them. It really just showed how strong of a couple these two will be and I really can’t wait to see more of them in future books.

I found the threat against teams to be interesting but also a bit anticlimactic at the end. The book geared you up for a big, and possibly deadly, battle but then was a bit of a let down in that aspect. Yes, there was still a fight but not as large as we were led to believe. I also didn’t love the tension between the OG couple, Ryland and Lily in this one. It was a bit heartbreaking at the time but I was glad there was a resolution to it in this book.

My only big disappointment with this book was that there was no update on the hunt for Whitney, again. For the past few books we haven’t gotten anything about how they are trying to stop his experiments or bring him down. It’s a bit disappointing at this point. I know there are men who need to find their partners but I still think there should be some overarching storyline about what they are doing about Whitney. I just hope the next book will give some update about the hunt.

Overall, this has been one of my favorite couples in a while. I really loved these two and the fascinating abilities they had. I also loved the friendship between Jonas, Jeff, and Kyle in this one and how they instantly accepted Camellia into their group. I can’t wait to see who the next couple will be now.

Trigger Warnings: Discussion of human experimentation, breeding programs, mental and physical abuse of kids, death of kids, parental murder with a suicide by cop, violent death of a friend.

  1. I loved the guys’ friendship too! I totally agree about the end. I did find all of the information about plants fascinating though…but then I have always wanted to have a green thumb.
