Title: Small Favor

Author: Jim Butcher

Narrator: James Marsters

Series: The Dresden Files #10

Length: 13h 49m

4 stars out of five
4 stars – It was really good

In this one, Harry is dealing with fae from the Summer Court after him, the kidnapping of Johnny Marcone, and the return of the Knights of the Blackened Denarians. I found this one to be really interesting because Harry is really getting smarter about dealing with all the various entities out there and learning to work with others.

The Knights of the Blackened Denarians are a fascinating group because they host demons within them. Michael and the Knights of the White Cross return in this to help Harry deal with Nicodemus and the Denarians. This was a high stakes and action packed case for Harry. The Denarians mean to gain power and they really go all out trying to get it. We see a lot of risky and dangerous gambles from Harry, but in the end he was able to win. There were casualties though and I really wonder how that will affect future fights against demons like this.

The fae aspect of this was surprisingly minimal compared to the Denarians. I still enjoyed it but it still felt a bit like two different storylines until the end when the link its explained, which worked but still felt like a weak link for everything that happened. But overall, I still really enjoyed it. Harry really has learned how to ask for help and pulls in a lot of different groups to help fight in this one, which made for a great story.

Overall, another fantastic Dresden files book. I look forward to rereading the rest of the series because I really haven’t remembered the past few books so it’s like I am reading these for the first time.

TW: kidnapping; torture; gun violence; suicide of a parent mentioned;
