3 stars – I liked it

Jet Lassiter is a pilot for Argeneau Inc. When the plane unexpectedly goes down, he finds himself stranded in the woods with multiple injured vampires who are desperate for blood. Only Quinn, the woman he has been lusting after for four years, can help him get safely away.

We originally meet Quinn Peters in The Trouble With Vampires when her sister Patronella found her lifemate. Quinn is quite different from her sister. She hated that she was turned and her life was taken away from her, so in response she refuses to learn anything about her nature and hides away for years with her son. Quinn takes denial to a whole new level and while I can understand some of  that, it also gets annoying because everyone is babying her and letting her get away with this. It was especially annoying considering past turns were forced to learn everything quickly and accept their new life, or were threatened with death by Lucian. While we do eventually see her seek help with a therapist, and deal with all her issues, I just found Quinn to be privileged and annoying.

Jet was initially introduced in Immortal Nights as Abigail’s best friend/ adopted brother. Jet was a great guy who has made friends with a lot of the immortals. He knows more about immortals than Quinn does, which is never good. I liked that Jet was  supportive of Quinn’s desire to seek help and that he helped her learn to live again.  My favorite thing about Jet though was his excitement at being a stepfather to Quinn’s son Parker. It was very sweet and made me wish more stepfathers were that way to the kids.

This book also returns to the elusive and mysterious Brass Circle group of immortals from China. They were introduced when we met Patronella and were the cause of her parents’ deaths. While this storyline with the Brass Circle seems to have wrapped up in this book, I wish that we had actually been given more backstory on the group and why it was so evil. It seems like a fascinating evil group and I wonder if they will appear more or if this will be the end of it.

Overall, while I did like this book, I struggled a bit with Quinn’s character. I do think these two were a good couple though because they learned to lean on each other to overcome their traumas and be great parents to Parker.

TW: plane crash; injuries and blood; animal attack; violent death of parents mentioned; stalking; kidnapping;
