3 stars – I liked it

When Raffaele pulls a barely dressed and disoriented woman from the ocean, he doesn’t expect to realize that she is his life mate, or for her to start raving about vampires. Now he is determined to keep her safe from rogue vampires pirates but what will he do when she ends up being the life mate for one of the rogue vampire pirates.

This was an interesting one because we have a woman who can be the life mate to two different immortals. Two very different immortals at that. I never expected vampire pirates to become a part of this series but it makes sense because they can live centuries and were around when pirates were a thing. I will say that while I enjoyed the whole idea of vampire pirates, I think Sands went too far on Vasco’s language because it was just so jarring and offputting compared to everyone else. No one else on the pirate ship talked that crude and ridiculous except him and it’s not like he has been sleeping for the past 100 years. His language would have changed with the times and wouldn’t say things like: ‘….my whore pipe in your tuzzy-muzzy.” Like wtf is this. Like I said, it was extremely jarring and ridiculous that it made Vasco an instant turn off as a character.

Raffaele was clearly different and seemed like a normal person who just wanted his life mate. I liked him and how he was prepared to do anything to help Jess, even let her go home without him and find her late if it was necessary. Jess was a woman who was just trying to have a nice vacation but everything just kept going wrong for her. I liked her. Raffaele and Jess’ relationship was like most of the relationships in this series, fast paced because of the life mate bond. I still enjoyed their relationship, even if it did feel a bit slow because Vasco kept being thrown in occasionally to show she could be a mate to both of them. But really, for a book about a woman who could be the life mate to two people, it really was only a one sided relationship because of Vasco being portrayed as the villain and not even being given a chance until the end. So don’t expect a love triangle situation with this.

Overall, I did enjoy this even with its ridiculous pirate talk. I really like the Notte men and want to see them all find their life mates. I am also curious to see if Vasco will get his own book in the future but I also don’t want him to because I don’t think I can take a whole book of that dialogue.

TW: mention of child abuse experience while in the foster system; death of parents mentioned; kidnapping; brief mention of rape;

  1. I’m glad you at least enjoyed this book in the end. I do agree that a whole book of that pirate language, from a vampire no less, would be a lot to deal with.
