Red-Haired Ash Reads

After 140 years, Elspeth has moved to Canada to get away from her controlling mother. She has six weeks of blissful peace before it all gets turned upside down with her mother and sisters arrival. On top of that it seems someone keeps trying to kill her because she keeps ending up in mysterious accidents. 

Elspeth has been briefly mentioned in some of the early books of this series but we never really got any info about her besides her being Martine’s daughter. From the beginning I liked Elspeth and her determination to finally live her life. She was a woman who knew her mother was toxic but stayed for her sisters sake until she was sure they were old enough. I do like how Elspeth kept standing up to her mother and how she didn’t keep what she was doing a secret from the others, which eventually is what led to her freedom from her mother. 

Wyatt is a veteran and bodyguard who is visiting his grandmother. He doesn’t expect to find Elspeth as one of her tenants. Wyatt was a great guy who went out of his way to protect Elspeth, her sisters, and his grandmother. I really liked how he never hesitated to protect Elspeth, even though she was immortal and could survive most injuries. 

Their relationship was great and filled with a lot of dangerous situations. In between attacks on Elspeth we see these two grow close and learn the truth about how far her mother’s controlling actions have gone. I really enjoyed this fated mates/second chance relationship a lot. 

The plot on who was trying to kill Elspeth was interesting since it was hard to determine who the villain was but also felt a bit overshadowed by Elspeth’s mother’s action. While I liked learning more about these ancient immortals and their issues, I wasn’t expecting it to become such a huge part of the book, but I did enjoy how it wrapped up and that help is finally being sought by Martine. 

Overall, this was an action packed one and I liked this couple. I look forward to seeing which immortal will find their life mate next.
