2 stars – it was ok

Abigail Forsythe attempts to spend quality time with her childhood friend and pilot, Jet, but that fails when she finds a naked and caged man in the cargo hold. But freeing him leads to her jumping out of a plane and being stuck in the jungle for days while they try and evade his captors.

While I have liked Tomasso and Dante in the previous books, Tomasso barely had any personality in this one and it was a bit boring overall. For the majority of this book, Tomasso barely speaks and mostly communicates in grunts to Abigail because he is trying to control his blood hunger. This was just disappointing after he has been a very vocal background character in the previous books. Also because Tomasso barely talks in this, Abigail’s personality felt like it was taking up the book. While I liked Abigail, it was just disappointing to have the majority of dialogue one sided. As you can imagine, because of this I felt little chemistry between these two because they never really got to know each other until the end, after she had been turned.

My other issue with this book was that it was a bit boring. The first half of the book was spent with these two walking the beach to try to make it to civilization with only Abigail talking really. Then the middle Abigail is deathly sick, so its only the very end when we get both of them actually talking and getting to know each other. The end is also where the other Argeneau’s come into play and we get a tiny bit of information about the doctor who is kidnapping immortals.

So basically, this couple was just ok and the story was also just ok. I am still glad to know how Tomasso escaped, but I was just expecting more for this character and storyline.

TW: kidnapping and human trafficking; negative self image (Abigail); recent death of mother from cancer; threat of rape; gun violence and injuries; vomiting graphically described;
