While I was really trying to finish this book, I need to admit that this one isn’t working for me. I knew going into this book that it was my least favorite of the series because I hate that Sands decided to pair someone up with a married woman. This is a personal dislike of mine because as we see in this book, we have a man trying to seduce her away from her husband, which is something I don’t want in a romance book.
I had a few other issues with this book. First, while I have liked Justin in all the previous books, I didn’t like him in this. His views on women, and Holly, are a bit toxic and off putting. He gets rid of her clothes because they are not what he wants his mate to be wearing, and he claims he loves women but is forced to admit that he just uses him for sex when he doesn’t know how to actually get to know a woman for non-sexual purposes. I was just really disappointed in his character in this.
Another issue was that I didn’t like how Justin’s friends gathered information from Holly about everything she hated, then told Justin she loved all those things. It was really malicious and caused a lot of problems. They say its their way of getting back at Justin for interfering with everyone else’s relationships, but his interference was never malicious like this and actually helped bring the couples closer, not push them further away.
Third, out of everything I read, I just don’t see any love building between Holly and Justin. Yes they are attracted to each other. But Holly is adamant that she is married and respects that vow, for the most part (dream sex). Justin spends the whole book just trying to win her over in showy ways instead of actually getting to know Holly. So for me, I can’t see these two actually being a successful couple, even though I do know how this ends and that they end up together.
Lastly, I found this book to be boring. There is nothing else happening besides the relationship, and since it was offputting and not great, This just ended up being really boring and not fun to read. So I am just going to stop here and jump to the next one.
TW: Holly is married when Justin turns her and attempts to seduce her into divorcing her husband; negative body image (Holly); absent parents mentioned;
