Title: Immortal Ever After
Author: Lynsay Sands
Series: Argeneau #18
Pages: 389

Valerie Moyer’s life changes quickly when she is kidnapped by a fanged psychopath. Days after her capture she is finally able to escape and call for help. What she doesn’t expect is for her rescuers not to be the police, or for her to start falling for one of the men.
So far in this series, Anders has been the quiet and bit rude enforcer who keeps being called in when other enforcers find their life mates. He has been adamant that he doesn’t want a life mate but that quickly changes when he actually meets her. After learning Anders’ backstory, it makes more sense why he has been so closed off from everyone. His past was very sad and tragic. Once Anders accepted that he had a life mate though he became such a sweet teddy bear of a man, which was so surprising but I liked it.
Valerie was great! She is smart and capable of saving herself, as she demonstrates multiple times. I loved that she wasn’t a damsel in distress, but her own savior. I also feel that because Valerie was a successful career woman and no longer in her 20s, she felt like a woman who understood what was important and never really got hysterical. It was a bit refreshing.
Anders and Valerie’s relationship was pretty enjoyable overall. Because Valerie had such a bad experience with their kind to begin with Anders takes their courtship a bit slow. I enjoyed the pace of it and how everything was revealed to Valerie. My only real issue with their relationship was Anders’ nickname. It pulled me out of the book every time Valerie used it, especially during the sex scenes. I don’t know why Sands would choose that name and nickname for a character. It’s just terrible.
Overall, this was enjoyable and I liked the couple. I do wonder when we will get more of a story arc for these books though because I enjoyed the ones that had a connecting villain.
TW: kidnapping; starvation; death; brief instance of an attempted pet abduction; pregnancy and complicated birth (not the heroine); murder of parents and friends discussed;
