Title: The Witch’s Familiar
Author: T.J. Nichols
Series: Familiar Mates #1
Pages: 216

Jude Sullivan has one more chance to prove he isn’t a danger to the paranormal community. He is being sent to Mercy South, Colorado to stop a creature that is mutilating cows and scaring the locals. If he fails to stop it his magic will be stripped, making him human again. What he doesn’t expect though is to find his fated mate.
This was an enjoyable paranormal romance. Jude is a lightning witch who is a bit of a mess, but trying his best to be a good witch. His ability is really rare and he struggles with not having a purpose with it, which leads to him getting in trouble. Jude was a sweet guy who just wanted someone to accept and love him. I really enjoyed getting to know him as he let his barriers down.
Mack is a bear shifter who realizes something is terrorizing his town and plans to do something about it, but Jude shows up first. These two have instant chemistry and quickly realize they are fated mates, but Mack rejects it due to witch’s taking advantage of shifter familiars in the past. While they try to keep their distance in the beginning, it doesn’t last and they fall hard for each other during the week they are investigating. I really enjoyed the progression of their relationship and how Jude’s barriers slowly came down as they got to know each other.
Overall, this was an enjoyable fated mates story and a unique world. I would be interested in reading more of this series to see what other paranormals are in the world and how the council handles them.
