3 stars – I liked it

To fulfill part of the diplomatic pact with humankind and the other leaders of the Elder Races, Pia heads to Hollywood to spend a week with the Light Fae Queen Tatiana before the busy Masque season hits NY in December. What she doesn’t plan for is an assault against the Light Fae that threatens all of the Elder Races.

After the events of the previous book, diplomatic relations are strained and everyone is on edge. Pia plans to fulfill the wyr side of the diplomatic pact before the Masque season, and before she gets too far along in her pregnancy. Pia has come a long way since the first book and she is no longer the terrified woman who is always on the run. She is now a capable woman who is willing to reveal all her secrets to save those she loves. I like that Pia is willing to reveal everything to save her family. She has become the strong but also soft partner that Dragos didn’t know he needed.

The threat in this one was interesting because it was magic induced and could spread to all magical beings. This is the second time we see danger befall Dragos and Pia takes initiative when he is down. I really feel for these two because they really haven’t had a break since they got together but it has made them a stronger couple. This story is also the first time the effects of Dragos memory loss has come into play. I really wonder what Dragos was doing in Tatiana’s sister’s court and how the loss of these memories will cause more problems in the future.

Overall, this was an interesting novella that focused more on the Light Fae. I continue to enjoy these novellas and how they continue to expand this world and Dragos and Pia’s story. Now I am very interested in learning more about the new pregnancy since its form has been revealed.

TW: pregnancy with complications; mass death;
