When a friend reaches out to Sinclair, he and his wife Jayne head to New Orleans for a visit before finishing their journey to the North Pole. Their visit should be simple, but instead they find themselves investigating a murder and someone trying to blackmail Sinclair’s  friend.

This was an enjoyable murder mystery. Sin and Jayne end up in New Orleans for a simple visit but quickly find themselves stuck deciphering another mystery. The murder was interesting in this because the cops initially thought it was a suicide, but that was questioned by all and eventually determined to be true. While I did enjoy the mystery of this one, I will admit, I figured out who the villain was pretty early in the story. I still enjoyed it and all though.

My complaint with this book, and the previous one, was that the fact that Jayne was pregnant and constantly hungry seemed to overshadow a lot of what was happening. There is so much of this book that is spent with them just eating meals or discussing the next meal they will have with her cravings. I know this is a fact of pregnancy, but it got old for me quickly. Though all the food talk did make me hungry for sweets.

Overall, this was enjoyable and I still am enjoying Sin and Jayne’s adventures. I will be interested in seeing how their next story progresses since she is very close to having the baby at this point.

TW: suicide discussed; murder and attempted murder of a pregnant woman; kidnapping;
