4 stars – It was really good

When Storm’s best friend is killed in action, he keeps his promise to take care of his wife and unborn child. He moves River to Montana and is determined to keep her safe, even from her in-laws.

This was an enjoyable romance that touches on some heavy topics. River has recently lost her husband and has to uproot her life to Montana when she is kicked out of military housing. Storm becomes her anchor as the weeks pass and they deal with their grief, their growing feelings for each other, pregnancy complications, and in-laws fighting for custody. Storm was a sweet and protective man who really pampered River.

Their relationship was sweet and built as the days passed with them living together. They quickly realize they are attracted to each other but they both had to overcome their grief and guilt before completely going all in. I really enjoyed the build up of their relationship and how emotional it ended up being between everything that happened.

Overall, this was a great best friend wife romance. It’s not one of my preferred tropes but I did enjoy this one, even with the typos.

TW: death of spouse and friend; grief; pregnancy and complications; on page custody battle; toxic family mentioned;
