4 stars – It was really good

After reading the previous book, I jumped right into this because I needed to know more about John’s past and the new drakul, Night. While we learned a little bit about one part, there is still a lot of mystery left to uncover by the end of this. Maybe even more of a mystery actually.

This book was focused mostly around John and his past. There were some huge reveals about his past, but also a lot more questions about what really happened to him. John really gets a lot thrown at him in this and we really see him being weighed down by everything. Unfortunately, Caleb and Gray are not there when he finds out most of these things because they are on a case with Zahira (who I am glad is back). John finds himself leaning on Night and his cousin Ryan, who seems to be pretty supportive so far. While I am glad he at least had his cousin for support, I really wish it had been Caleb and Gray.

Caleb, Gray and Zahira are on their own case in New Orleans. They are hunting a creature that kills people at night by strangling them. It was a very interesting case with a unique creature. I love that Zahira is back with the group. I enjoyed seeing her and Caleb/Gray work together on their own.

I really am hooked on this series because it’s just constant revelations and new questions about what is going on, so I will be jumping right into the next one. I am constantly surprised by what will happen because everything feels so unpredictable in this series.
