Title: Master of Ghouls
Author: Jordan L. Hawk
Series: SPECTR #2
Pages: 113

Caleb Janen is trying to deal with being possessed by the vampire spirit named Gray. He wants to exorcise Gray but until then, District Chief Kanlyar of SPECTR has asked him to work for them as a consultant hunting down demons.
This was a short one but I still really enjoyed it. Caleb is continuing to struggle with being possessed and wanting to get rid of Gray. But we also see Gray and Caleb start to tentatively talk to each other, which I am excited to see more of. I want to know more about Gray. Caleb and John are also tentatively starting to talk about their relationship and what they want from each other. While I love that we are finally getting to see it, I was expecting a bit more from them, but like I said this is a short one so hopefully there will be more relationship development in the next one.
In this one John and Caleb are dealing with Ghouls who are acting unusual and seem to be under someone’s control. It was interesting learning more about how this paranormal world works and the creatures within it. I was not expecting who the villain was and wondered how it would influence the rest of the series. I really enjoyed how action packed this series has been and look forward to seeing what Caleb and John tackle next.
Overall, this was another interesting continuation of Caleb and John’s story. This definitely feels like one continuous book that has just been broken down into smaller novellas that focus on different cases, but I am enjoying it still. I am glad I bought the box set though because each of these feels like a cliffhanger with how I instantly want to know what will happen next.
