3 stars – I liked it

Landon spends his days reading, petting his cat, and lusting over August. While he doesn’t really do anything villainous anymore, he still occasionally ends up helping August out during his superhero duties. When illusionists seem to be targeting August and their group, Landon is determined to get to the root of the matter and find out who is doing it.

This was another enjoyable supe romance. While I liked this one, I did feel like it was a bit more chaotic and all over the place with the storyline. There was a lot of times when the banter between the couple, and sometimes the rest of the gang, just felt dragged out and didn’t result in any progress with the storyline. It felt more like it was there just for laughs, and after a while, it wasn’t really working for me. Basically I struggled with the pacing of this and how long it took to uncover who was behind everything.

August, Landon and the Superheroes United gang are all working together in this to find out who the illusionist is and why it seems to be targeting August and Landon. I really enjoyed the camaraderie between everyone in this and how they work together to try and help each other utilize their abilities better. We also get two new people introduced into the group in this one, Asmodeus (Deus) and Ellison, who were both fun characters. Deus was a very amusing addition to the group because of how ridiculous his life is and how he reacts to basic things like friendship.

August and Landon have been together for a few months now and are living together. You can really feel how much these two care for each other in this and how well they put up with each other’s quirks. We see August really learn to lean on Landon, and the rest of the gang, for support with being a superhero and the emotional toll it takes on him. I still really enjoy these two as a couple and look forward to seeing more of their relationship. Also, I really love that we finally see August stand up for himself against the managers of Superheroes United and push for a better working environment for all supes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one even with its slightly chaotic storyline. I look forward to reading the next one and seeing what crazy things this group will do next. Also, I want to see more crazy things they do on SAVCGEM nights.

TW: gun, knife, and bomb violence; injuries; death
