Title: Game Changer
Author: Rachel Reid
Series: Game Changers #1
Pages: 400

New York Admirals captain Scott Hunter takes his pregame rituals seriously, especially when it breaks his on-ice slump. Now he is visiting a smoothie bar every game to recreate the luck and hopefully speak with the guy behind the register. Kip never expected Scott to be interested in him or to invite him back to his penthouse, but now that they have been together they can’t seem to stay away, even with Scott being in the closet about his sexuality.
After seeing all the hype around Heated Rivalry, I decided to finally read this book because I have owned it for a couple of years now. So far, this series is living up to the hype of emotional and beautifully written hockey romances. We will see if that continues as I read the rest of the series, but I have high hopes after reading this one.
This was a beautiful and emotional relationship between two people who really love each other but can’t show it because of Scott’s career. I don’t normally go for secret relationships, but this one was well written and I loved how we see an ultimatum being made and change actually happening pretty quick between these two. I love a romance where there is actual relationship building with challenges overcome. Also I love how when Scott did finally decide he wanted to go public, he started almost instantly with his close friends. He didn’t hesitate and I loved that.
Kip was a sweet guy who was struggling with what he wanted to do with his life. I like that we see Kip working through what he actually wants from his career and then trying to achieve those goals. I didn’t love that Kip didn’t share this with Scott though and he kept so much of his feelings and fears hidden from him at first. But I was glad that changed once they had an actual talk about what they wanted and started to come clean with each other.
Overall, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book and the couple. I didn’t think the hype around this series was true but so far it’s proven me wrong. I hope I enjoy the next book since it’s the couple everyone is raving about right now.
