Title: Hell’s Spells
Author: Devon Monk
Series: Ordinary Magic #6
Lengths: 7h 44m

Sheriff Delaney Reed finally has her soul back and is slowly healing from it being missing. She is dealing with some memory loss and blacked outs, but still is determined to do her job. What she doesn’t expect is to have to deal with the Queen of Demons again or for another demon to be trying to enter Ordinary. On top of all this, her relationship with Ryder is on the rocks again.
Unlike the previous books, this one wasn’t as interesting for me. I thought Delaney and Ryder had settled their issues with their relationship and had learned to communicate, but they have not.. Delaney spends this whole book agonizing over her relationship with Ryder and declaring she will fight for him, but not actually doing anything about it. She doesn’t talk to him about what is going on or what their future entails, they both just ignore it. Then we get a big declaration from Ryder in the end that is supposed to make everything better with their relationship, without actually any communication. These two are not a healthy couple in my opinion and I don’t think they can have a HEA because they have repeatedly shown they can’t communicate.
The demon aspect of this was fine. There was a lot of build up with the new demon arriving but no real follow through of a big fight. It was anticlimactic and not exactly interesting for me. I am not really enjoying any of the demon characters in this. I am just starting to feel bored with the current demon threat.
Overall, this one didn’t really work for me. I don’t know if I want to read the next one and give this series one more shot. We will see.
