2 stars – it was ok

Myra Reed has spent the past year trying to find a way to free her sister’s soul from the demon Bathin. Unfortunately she is running out of time to rescue her soul and now Ordinary is dealing with portals from Hell popping up all over town.

This is the first book from Myra’s POV and while I thought I would enjoy a different sister’s perspective for once, I found myself a bit annoyed by her. She is supposed to be the smart sister who has all the knowledge about magic and gods, but she is so reckless in this. She is constantly jumping from one half made plan to another in the hopes she can free her sister’s soul. Also her thoughts are so repetitive, especially when it comes to Bathin, that it quickly got old and a bit annoying.

The relationship between Bathin and Myra was one I was interested in seeing more of but I found myself not really enjoying it. By the end of the book, I felt like these two didn’t have a healthy relationship because it was all built around manipulation on Bathin’s part. He basically is using Delaney’s soul just so he can have more time trying to win Myra’s trust, which isn’t a healthy start to a relationship. Basically, I ended up not loving these two.

The demon’s attack on Ordinary was interesting. I wasn’t expecting a unicorn to come into play but I knew from the beginning that it was clearly not an innocent being. While the unicorn was very pompous and annoying at times, I also found it amusing. I also enjoyed seeing all the Gods and other supernatural beings playing their background roles in this hunt, especially Than, who has become my favorite God.

Overall, this was not my favorite of the series but I will give the next book a chance. I like this unique town of Ordinary a lot and really wonder what other things these sisters will have to deal with.
