My last recommendation post for urban fantasy was in 2021, so I thought it was time for a follow up with more recommendations. I should start with stating my definition of urban fantasy because I know people view it differently.
Urban fantasy is a mesh of different genres, mainly paranormal and fantasy, in a modern setting. It has the same main hero or heroine throughout the series. There isn’t necessarily romance, but if there is it usually develops over the progression of the series rather than by the end of the first book. By the way all of the ones listed here have romance.
Now onto part two of my recommendations!
Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews

The Innkeeper Chronicles is an ongoing series that is currently at six books. It’s an urban fantasy with sci-fi and paranormal elements. This is a fascinating world with aliens, vampires, werewolves, and an innkeeper who has a magical bed and breakfast.
Hidden Legacy by Ilona Andrews

The Hidden Legacy series is a six book series that follows the Baylor family. The first three books are about the oldest sister, Nevada, then the next three books are about the middle sister Catalina. While there is still one more sister to go, it is unclear if Andrews will be writing her story. This is a unique world with different houses in power that have various degrees of abilities, like fire, magnetism, truth seekers, giants, etc.
If you want fantastic, unique worlds, I highly recommend Ilona Andrews books. All of them are good.
Soulbound by Hailey Turner

The Soulbound series is a gay urban fantasy world of shifters, vampires, mages, and gods. This series follows mage Patrick as he tries to solve crimes, fight off a guy trying to steal a gods power, and fall in love with werewolf Jono.
The Others by Anne Bishop

The Others series series is a unique and dark urban fantasy world with shifters (Others) and monsters in the woods. The humans are the minority and they only are left alone if they stay in their areas, but if they leave, they risk being eaten. This follows Meg, who is a blood prophet. She can see the future when she cuts herself but she has escaped her jailors and seeks refuge with the others
I love how unique and dark this series is. The others are deadly and they have no problems eating humans when they step out of line. They were creatures first and then transformed into humanlike versions of themselves, but they don’t leave that wildness behind. It’s a nice twist on most UF and paranormal worlds that start with human first then become creatures.
Black Blade by Jennifer Estep

The Black Blade trilogy is a young adult urban fantasy that follows 17 year old Lila Merriweather. This involves a chosen one, magic, monsters, and feuding magical families. While I am usually not a huge fan of young adult series, this one really captivated me and I enjoyed Lila’s story and relationship.
Mythos Academy by Jennifer Estep

The Mythos Academy series is another young adult urban fantasy series. The series is finished and has seven books and one novella. This urban fantasy one involves a magical school of full of Valkyries, Spartans, and Amazons, meddling gods, a girl who can read memories from objects and a tense battle between good and evil. Also, this takes place in the same world as the Elemental Assassin series.
Crawshank’s Guide to the Recently Departed by Vawn Cassidy

The Crawshank’s Guide to the Recently Departed series follows Tristan Everett, a pathologist, who has a freak accident that leads to him seeing ghosts. Afterwards he finds himself helping ghosts cross over and solve mysteries, and falling in love with a Detective. I really enjoy this series because it has interesting and fun characters and great mysteries.
Not Dead Yet by Jenn Burke

The Not Dead Yet series is about a ghost who gets a second chance with his detective crush. Along the way the open their own private investigation business and solve mysteries. I really love these two and how they got their second chance and HEA.
