4 stars out of five
4 stars – It was really good

This picks up shortly after the previous book ended. Like the previous book, this is a bit of a slice of life story but with a thorough storyline as well. In this we have Hachiro dealing with an assassin, the dangerous Fear Jack the Fiend, making friends, and dealing with a film producing Fear. We also learn more about Dr. Frankenstein and get some backstory on Hachiro’s childhood after being created.

Hachiro Futami, aka No. 28, is meant to be the destroyer of humans but instead becomes a human lover and protector. I loved him in the first book and he just keeps getting better with the more we learn about him. Hachiro continues to grow in this book as he fights new Fears and learns more about his father’s motivations. I am so glad we are learning more about the Doctor and his relationship with Hachiro. I love all the snippets of his childhood and seeing the Doctor’s feelings during the experiments.

The slice of life aspects in this one were amusing, much like the previous book. I enjoyed watching Hachiro make friends out of the people trying to kill him. It is amusing and will be a very interesting reveal when he realizes the truth about them. I also really enjoyed the beach day with Frankenstein because it was nice to see him in a non-medical setting and just playing the part of a standoffish dad to a bunch of dangerous children.

Now that Hachiro’s name is known throughout Infernia, he is dealing with Fears tracking him down for a fight. I really enjoyed the fight with Jack the Fiend. He was a very interesting Fear and I want to know more about him now, especially since he was so powerful.

This ends on a cliffhanger with another fiend attacking. I am dying to know what will happen next to Hachiro and his friend Kosuke.
