Charlie’s career writing advice columns is dying and he really needs to find a way to revamp it. When he runs into Lorenzo, an old acquaintance, at a coffee shop and realizes he is a vampire, he jumps at a chance to learn more in the hopes it will help his column. But Lorenzo has an axe to grind against Charlie and plans to use this as a chance to get even.
This was an enjoyable vampire romance even if it was a very weak hate to love one. I wouldn’t call these two enemies like it is advertised because Charlie just remembers him as an acquaintance who dated his friend not an enemy, while Lorenzo sees him as an enemy, so it’s more hate to love on one side and acquaintance-to friend-to-lover on the other. That said, I did enjoy this even if it was a bit slow at times.
Lorenzo and Charlie’s relationship was a bit tense in the beginning, especially on Lorenzo’s side. He goes into this with a plan to get revenge but instead finds himself falling pretty quickly for Charlie and his excitement at learning about paranormals. I enjoyed Lorenzo and Charlie both, but I don’t know if I really loved them as a couple. I think they made good friends though and I enjoyed Charlie’s exuberance about learning all about the paranormal world.
I had two issues with this book and one was the pacing. It dragged a bit in the middle because it was a bit repetitive with these two visiting various paranormals so Charlie could learn about them. Secondly, I didn’t like how Charlie didn’t tell Lorenzo the truth after they became friends. It especially should have been disclosed before they started their relationship, but of course it wasn’t and it led to a third act breakup, which was fine but predictable.
Overall, this was a good vampire romance but it did have some pacing issues. I will say I enjoyed this world and all the creatures we got introduced to though.
