4 stars – It was really good

Davina has finally been given her first assignment out of the Elite Nanny Academy. She is to protect the son of notorious mafia underboss, Gabriel Angelini. Being an Elite Nanny means you do more than just watch over a child, you protect them, feed them, teach them, and most importantly, don’t get attached. But the more time she spends with Mickey and Gabriel the more compelled by them she becomes, especially since she knows danger is lurking.

This was a solid start to a series that kept me hooked throughout the volume. I enjoyed Davina, even if she did make a few silly mistakes. She really does a great job at protecting Mikey but also letting him be a child, which seems like it would be hard to do in a mafia family. I like the hint at forbidden romance that is brewing between Gabriel and Davina as well.

This ends in a bit of a cliffhanger with a threat targeted at Mikey. I will be very interested in seeing what will happen next, especially since we are learning more about how the Don might be controlling Gabriel.

TW: child kidnapping; murder of spouse mentioned; grief; brief runaway child;
