Red-Haired Ash Reads

Gemma is a sleep paralysis demon who is not very good at her job. She has spent a long time in training and gone through multiple mentors because she just doesn’t want to scare people, but she has to do it to feed. This is her last chance at fulfilling her duty or she will disappear like all the others before her who couldn’t do the job. 

This was a very short, but very enjoyable and well written story about a demon just searching for acceptance, and a little love. From the beginning I was sucked into Gemma’s story and her struggle to fit in with everyone. Gemma’s struggle to be normal but also be herself was relatable, especially for this goth girl in a small town. 

Caleb only had a little bit of page time, but he still felt like a complete character. Caleb is a 40ish year old man who has always believed in the paranormal so he is instantly captivated by Gemma. I liked how accepting Caleb was instantly of her and that he helped her admit the truth about herself. I enjoyed their relationship a lot, even though we only got to see a tiny portion of it, it still was an emotional and captivating one. 

Overall, this was really enjoyable and I liked these two a lot. I especially liked the twist at the end that led to them reuniting. This was actually my first Katee Roberts book so I might have to look into reading some of her other books now.
