4 stars – It was really good

Allie never expected to become a single mom or to return to her hometown in Colorado, but here she is. Her life now revolves around running housekeeping duties at the Langston Windward and taking care of her grieving five year old nephew. She doesn’t have time for the grumpy head of security and his good looks. But when a group of dangerous guests arrive, they find themselves struggling to keep their hands off each other while working to gather evidence against them.

After meeting Allie and Caden in the previous book, I was very interested in getting to know more about them and see how they fall in love. Allie is a hardworking and compassionate woman who dropped everything to take care of her nephew. She is a great aunt who doesn’t force Ollie to do things he isn’t read for, like hold hands. While I don’t usually love children in stories, Ollie was a good side character and I enjoyed the scenes with him. My only complaint about Allie was that she was so focused on Ollie’s grief, we never see her really address her own grief over the death of her brother.

Caden is a veteran and head of security for all Langston hotels. We quickly realize that Caden may have left the military behind but it still haunts him. He struggles with his own grief over his teammates and has survivor’s guilt. I really liked Caden, even if he was so determined to keep his distance because he doesn’t think he deserves love.

Caden and Allie’s relationship was intense, but also had a lot of sweet moments. They fell hard for each other while dealing with a group of troublemakers at the hotel. The tension of dealing with this group made their feelings intense and the makeout sessions steamy.  Also while this book dealt with heavy topics, I don’t think it overshadowed the love between these two, which is always good.

Overall, this was another great couple for this series. I am really enjoying the Langston Windward characters. I look forward to finding out who will fall in love next.

TW: sibling and their spouse recently murdered; grief; kidnapping; mentions of death and injuries to team members during missions for the military; on page spiking of a drink; on page drug overdose; physical abuse
