4 stars – It was really good

Blair has been waiting his whole life to run and find freedom. When he finds hidden papers detailing his inheritance, he takes them and runs to the tiny town of Elmwood. While he finds a future in Elmwood, he also discovers the town isn’t as normal as his coworkers try to make it seem.

I was surprised by how much I was sucked into Richard and Blair’s story. Quin does an amazing job at creating a slow burn that is emotional, sweet, and a bit tense. It was just the perfect combination to keep me glued to the pages, especially considering I am not a huge fan of slow burns.

Blair has had a traumatic life and he finally is free from his abuser. In the town of Elmwood he starts making friends and finds himself falling for Richard, who he doesn’t know is a vampire. I really loved Blair. His love of campy vampire movies and alternative fashion was so relatable, it just made me happy. His story was tragic but I liked how hard he worked to start a new life.

Richard remembers Blair as a cute child, but when he returns to Elmwood as an adult, he is instantly smitten. Richard may be a vampire but he was a very laid back one. I liked Richard a lot, even with his faults. He was protective of his brother and Blair, but he really is just a grumpy guy who wants to be left to live his life most of the time. He was just a great guy and I enjoyed his perspective in this.

“Looking at Blair Evans was like staring into the sun. Too long, and I was sure he would blind me.”

Richard and Blair’s relationship is a bit of a slow burn but was so enjoyable. It was an emotionally charged but sweet relationship that dealt with overcoming traumas. I also really loved that they were both virgins and figuring things out together. I love a romance with older virgins. But basically, I was hooked to these two and their beautiful and emotional relationship.

“Richard’s kisses were drops of sunshine.”

Overall, this was a wonderful 600 page romance and I couldn’t put it down. I am really enjoying this series so far and can’t wait to read the next books to find out what happens with Prudence and Jeffrey.
