5 stars – I loved it!

As soon as I saw the cover for this manga I knew I wanted to read it. I love any kind of monster creature and pair that with an ice cream cone, I was intrigued. This ended up being a fantastic and fun story about Hachiro, a Fear who refuses to scare humans but wants to actually protect them.

This world consists of humans and Fears. The Fears are from Infernia and feed off the fear of humans, so they are considered monsters. Hachiro Futani is not like the other Fears though. He doesn’t want to destroy humans and gain power from their fear. He just wants to live among them and enjoy the comforts they have, like ice cream. When Fears start getting in the way of him enjoying his human life though, he fights back which puts a target on his back. This whole concept of Fears (demons) was fascinating and the illustrations of the fears were fantastic.

I really enjoyed this story. Hachiro was so fun and was a bit of a himbo. He loves sweets and humans so much he fights to protect them. He also is really enamored with the Metro PD special operations unit, The Unbelievables. Basically they are like the power rangers but not very good at their jobs. It was so much fun seeing Hachiro learn about being a human, fangirling over an idol, and trying really hard to make a friend.

Like I said, I loved this. I can’t wait to read the next volume to see what happens next for Hachiro, especially since he still has to deal with Jack the Fiend and his gang. Also, I really liked Dr. Rodolphe Frankenstein and all his people.
