4 stars – It was really good

Nicholas Argeneau has spent the past 50 years as a rogue, but he isn’t like most rogues. He doesn’t cause carnage and instead continues his old job as hunter taking them down. But when he saves Jo Willan, his life gets turned upside down again and this time he probably will be caught and executed.

Since reading the Rogue Hunter, I have been really interested in Nicholas’ story since all the Hunters label him a rogue but he doesn’t act like one. Nicholas went rogue shortly after the death of his life mate fifty years ago, but it isn’t until Jo starts asking questions that Nicholas realizes there is more going on with his wife’s death and his turning rogue. I really enjoyed the layers to this mystery and how Jo refused to let anyone tell her what to believe. She was smart, spunky, and very determined to show everyone that Nicholas wasn’t a rogue and she succeeded.

Nicholas was a great hero and really does everything he can to stop rogue vampires, even when he is labeled one himself. Nicholas was a very likable hero who was the perfect amount of protective but also respectful of Jo’s thoughts and abilities. Jo was a smart and fun heroine. She didn’t take any shit from Nicholas or any of the other men. She questions everything and refuses to let others tell her what she should think. She was great!

My only real complaint with this book is the ending.  There is no conclusion on who is targeting Nicholas and his family. I assume it will be covered in the next book, which is about Nichola’s father Armond, but won’t know for sure until I start reading it. I was just expecting a bit more at the end.

Overall, this was another enjoyable couple who uncovered an interesting mystery. I am interested in reading the next book to find out who was targeting them and why Armond has lost so many wives.

TW: death of spouse  and unborn child mentioned; miscarriage mentioned; kidnapping; rape mentioned;
