Dr. Danielle McGill doesn’t expect to be kidnapped with her younger sister on her way back from a family vacation. While she is rescued by a trio of men, her sister wasn’t. Now she is racing to save her sister and dealing with the revelation that vampires are real, and she is apparently the life mate to one.

After the previous rogue hunters book not having a lot of rogue storyline, I was expecting this to be the same. But it wasn’t. This one focuses almost exclusively on the hunt to stop a rogue group and to rescue a 15 year old girl. This really helped the story keep a fast pace and didn’t feel as much of a drag as the previous one.

I also liked that this book expands the world of the immortals by showing that not all immortals are the same. There are Edentate immortals who don’t have fangs and have a higher chance of being crazy during the turn. This is an interesting revelation and brings about a whole new kind of rogue because they slowly kill their victims with cuts instead of just draining them with fangs. Sands is doing a decent job at trying to keep this world interesting and expand what is there.

Dani was an enjoyable heroine. She is a determined woman who refuses to let others dictate her fate, even when they can control her. She isn’t afraid to stand up to Decker and doesn’t let him dictate his actions. I liked her a lot, especially since she doesn’t let the Argeneau’s views on Nicholas impact her views on him.

Decker is a 259 year old hunter and wasn’t expecting to find his life mate at a rogue camp. For me, I didn’t really love Decker. He was a fine hero but he just doesn’t stand out to me compared to some of the previous heros. Dani and Decker’s relationship evolves over their race to save her sister. In the beginning, there is a lot of tension between the two because Decker doesn’t really know how to act around Dani and she isn’t sure she can trust them. I enjoyed their relationship for the most part, more so in the second half of the book after she finds out about immortals.

Overall, this was an action packed addition to this series. I enjoyed the couple for the most part but the action kept me hooked. I am excited to jump into the next book because Nicholas Argeneau is considered a rogue and I really want to know more about what happened to him.

TW: kidnapping; mass death; threat of rape; death of pregnant wife in car accident mentioned; murder of pregnant woman mentioned; suicide mentioned;
