3 stars – I liked it

Sonya Vassilieva is Russia’s biggest hope at winning a gold medal at the Olympics. When a mistake destroys that dream, she questions everything in her life including her love for fellow gymnast Arina Sokolova.

This book may be short but it takes place over two years with it jumping between past and present. Sonya is an impulsive woman who does drastic things when she is upset, like break up with the love of her life. While I did like this story well enough, I found Sonya to be annoying, but also she is only like 20 so that fits with that age. She loses the gold and takes her upset out on her relationship instead of dealing with it rationally.

My other complaint was that it felt like there was no real make-up discussion between them. Sonya is just like sorry I fucked up and Arina accepts her back. I was really hoping for a more in depth discussion between these two about her behavior and their feelings.

Overall, this was fine. I liked it well enough but would have liked a few more pages of these two actually making up.
