3 stars – I liked it

Heather Luth knows nothing about the paranormal world until one night she runs into a vampire. Now she is on the run and finds herself in a small town in Arizona looking for work. She finds a temporary job as a teacher on the Twin Moon Ranch and quickly finds herself falling for Cody Hawthorne.

Cody and Heather have a fated mates story that is also a forbidden love one. They have instant attraction and feelings build quickly, but Cody knows he should keep his distance because she is human and that is forbidden by the old council. While I enjoyed their relationship and its fast pace, I do wish there had been more discussion on page between them about him being a shifter and his father trying to force a marriage on him. It felt like some of the threads of their relationship were just skipped over after the vampire threat was contained.

While this book introduces vampires in this world, it was very minimal on details. The vampires appear and they are the villains, but we get no general information about vampires in this world. I was really expecting a bit more world development since a new paranormal was being introduced and was the enemy in this. Also, it was a bit of an anticlimactic ending with the vampires because they were barely in the story.

Overall, while I am still enjoying this series, I wish there was a bit more world building and relationship development between the characters.
