Title: Single White Vampire
Author: Lynsay Sands
Series: Argeneau #3
Pages: 378

Editor Kate C. Leever’s first letter to her newest legacy author was meant to impress upon him the growing demand for his vampire romances. While he has made it clear in the past he doesn’t do publicity, she hopes she can change his mind. Unfortunately she just keeps getting told no. So she shows up in person to try and change his mind.
I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Lucern and Kate’s story. This grumpy vampire is such an old curmudgeon who really needed Kate’s sunny personality to come out of his shell. Lucern keeps everyone at a distance and prefers to just observe. He has spent the last few years writing down the tales of his family’s relationships and they are now bestselling paranormal romances. I kinda love that we have this grumpy old fashioned vampire who ends up writing vampire romances and attending a romance conference.
Kate is a career oriented woman who is determined to get Lucern out of his shell and interacting with his fans. I loved how determined she was and that she never gave up on getting Lucern to interact with others. She even thought of the ways to make it easier on him. Kate also did great when she found out Lucern was a vampire and it was a bit refreshing having a heroine not panic when it’s revealed. Also she goes out of her way to make sure Lucern feeds during the conference, including risking jail time to help him, so of course I loved Kate.
The romance between Lucern and Kate is a bit slow building. They are both instantly attracted to each other but are fighting it. Lucern at first finds Kate very annoying and pushy, but it quickly changes to affection as he realizes he might like women who don’t need help. I just really enjoyed watching Lucern slowly come out of his shell and fall for Kate, especially since he was so against “aggressive” women as he put it.
My only real issue with the characters is Lucerns outdated views on women. But as the story progresses we see he does come to the realization that these views are not great and that what he thought he wanted in a relationship isn’t healthy. So while I didn’t love the outdated views, I also understood them since he is 612 years old and needed someone like Kate to change his viewpoint.
I think my only real complaint is with the attack in the hotel room. This was made out to seem like a big event during it but afterwards it’s just brushed off by Lucern. Like someone just tried to stake you, but apparently since the person was upset it’s fine. Yes they can mind control the person and fix their memories of the attack, but I was really expecting more from it.
Overall, this was a really enjoyable vampire romance. I loved Lucern and Kate’s story and the many humorous things that happened during it. I look forward to reading the next one.
