4 stars – It was really good

It’s been almost 10 years since I last read this series from the beginning and while I have kept up with it, I have forgotten a lot of what happens too. Like the previous times I have read this book, I was again instantly hooked to Lissianna and Greg’s story. Lissianna has spent centuries dealing with hemophobia, which for a human isn’t a big deal, but for a vampire it can cause a lot of problems. When she finds a sexy guy tied to her bed, she thinks he is just dinner, but quickly realizes he is actually a psychologist who is supposed to cure her phobia. But when she can’t read his mind or control him, she realizes he might be her fated mate.

Greg and Lissianna may be fated mates, but this isn’t an instant love situation. The attraction is there, but the feelings between these two grow as they get to know each other and deal, which is the best kind of fated mates story in my opinion. While Greg may have been kidnapped by Lissianna’s mother Marguerite, I liked that Lissianna tried to make it right and let Greg work with her on his own time, even if that doesn’t really work. I do wish we had seen more of Greg treating Lissianna’s phobia though.

Sands has created a very unique world of vampires and it continues to be one of my favorites. I love the whole creation story for the vampires in this and how their abilities evolved as the need arose. The fated mates aspect of vampires was another unique aspect that I really enjoyed. Vampire’s can read minds and control people, so of course a potential mate would be the one who you can’t control or read. But I also liked that they still had free will in the mating and could say no.

Overall, this was a fantastic start to a series and I really loved this unique world and take on vampires. I can’t wait to reread the rest of the series and see what else I have forgotten. Also, I forgot how much I liked this family so I am excited to read about all of them falling in love again.

TW: kidnapping; hemophobia; alcoholic and controlling parent mentioned; death of a parent in a fire mentioned;
