3.5 stars – I Like It

When Tasha learns the truth about the men in the human-Zabrian mail-order bride program, she rushes to the penal colony to check on the humans and judge if the program will continue. There she comes face to face with the arrogant and hot alien warlord in charge. Tenn forces her to give his men, and the men in the other colonies, a chance to prove themselves. Now she has a month to meet everyone and it will all be spent with the warden.

Like the previous books, I was instantly sucked into Tenn and Tasha’s story. These two don’t start off on the right foot but the attraction was there from the beginning. Tenn forces Tasha to give his men at least a month’s chance, just like she gives the mail-order brides. Their romance builds over their travels to meet all the women and to meet Warden Hallum’s men. Like the previous books, I enjoyed the banter and the progression of their romance. It was perfectly paced with the story.

“I finally understand. I understand what it’s like to care for someone so deeply that you’d go to the mines for her. I understand what it’s like to know, in the deepest parts of yourself, that you would kill another man simply because he’d laid his hands upon her.”

Tenn was a surprisingly sweet guy who gave up a lot when he was forced to become a warden. He just wants to make his men happy but meeting Tasha brings up a lot of his former dreams, like having a family. I really enjoyed getting to know him and how he became a warden. Tasha was a determined and driven woman who has fought to make a better life for herself on Elora Station. Unfortunately after meeting the women and seeing how happy they are, she realizes her life is also a bit empty and lonely. I really enjoyed seeing Tasha open up with Tenn and realize she wanted more for life. I was expecting a bit more of a development once they cemented their relationship though. It felt a bit abrupt at the end there, but I still enjoyed it overall.

“How does it feel,” he murmured, “to be the only one in this world capable of making a Zabrian warden beg?”

Overall, this was another great book. This series has become one of my favorite alien romances and I am loving that there will be more books. I can’t wait to read the future books and get to know Warden Hallum’s men and see Oaken and Zohro finally get wives.
