Author: Anna Hackett
Series: Hunter Squad #2
Pages: 183
Releases: April 3, 2025

North Conners is a soldier like his father before him. He is a medic for Hunter Squad and is determined to bring down the monsters and keep everyone safe. When two boys go missing, Hunter Squad is tasked with finding them and North is determined to save them in time. Even if it means working with the new recruit, Jessica Ramos, who he doesn’t trust but can’t stop thinking about.
North is the son of Ash and Marin and has followed in his father’s footsteps of being a soldier and a doctor. He is protective, especially towards children, and is struggling with a new recruit on the team because he is afraid it will mess up the dynamic of the team. He quickly realizes though that Jess can hold her own and has no problem pushing back against men who try to protect her.
Jess Ramos has recently moved to Australia to join Hunter Squad. She is a distant cousin of Cruz (Hell Squad #2). She has spent her life proving to others, mainly men, that she is capable of being on the hunter squads and that she doesn’t need protecting. Jess was a very interesting heroine because not only was she badass but she also was researching the monsters. I liked this blend of scientist and soldier.
North and Jess have a very fast paced relationship. They are both attracted to each other from the beginning but they try to fight it. But after one mission together that quickly goes out the window and they can’t seem to keep their hands off each other. While I did enjoy their relationship, and the story overall, I do wish we had seen a little more relationship building between these two, especially since North didn’t trust her in the beginning.
Overall, this was another enjoyable Hunter Squad book. I am very interested in reading more and seeing who falls next and how they relate to the previous Hell Squad couples. Also, I really enjoyed the brief cameo of Marcus, Cruz and Finn helping on a mission.
TW: child abduction mentioned; death of children discussed; PTSD and nightmares; death of parents mentioned;
