5 stars – I loved it!

While on tour, musician Sidonie Martel is kidnapped and transported to the mystical land of Avalon. She is a human without magical ability and she is extremely vulnerable to the deadly forces surrounding her. When she defies Isabeau, Queen of the Light, by refusing to share her music, she finds herself broken in a dungeon with no hope of ever leaving. But a mysterious man appears in the dark and helps her as much as he can.

Sidonie and Morgan’s story was a very emotional and intense one. From the very beginning these two were fighting to survive in a harsh and dangerous environment and it made it really hard to put this book down because you never knew what was going to happen next. Sidonie was an extremely strong woman, even if she became mentally broken from the torture. While she struggles for a bit, she eventually finds her strength to find a way out to the situation and she does. She rolls with the punches and tries to find what happiness she can during the kidnapping. I really liked Sidonie.

Morgan has been trapped by Isabeau for hundreds of years and no one knows it. He knows he should stay away from Sidonie to protect her but he can’t fight his need to help her as much as he can. In the previous books, Morgan is the villain, for a good reason, but in this we see that is not who he truly is. He has spent years being forced to do horrible things for a fickle queen and he just wants his freedom. I really felt for him and everything he went through.

Sidonie and Morgan have a very emotional relationship that grows while they are trying to escape the prison of the Light Queen’s court and dungeon. I enjoyed the progression of their relationship and how they fought for each other. Also I appreciated that they weren’t magically fine once they were freed. They both had a lot of mental and physical trauma they had to work through before they even could discuss their relationship.

Overall, this was a fantastic and emotional story. From the beginning I couldn’t put this story down and these two are now one of my favorite couples in this universe. I really can’t wait to read the next book to find out what will happen next in the fae courts.

TW:  magical enslavement; kidnapping, imprisonment and torture; attempted rape (stopped before anything happens); racist side character;
