Title: The Art Thief: A True Story of Love, Crime, and a Dangerous Obsession
Author: Michael Finkel
Narrator: Edoardo Ballerini; Michael Finkel
Length: 5 hrs and 39 mins

This was a fascinating look at the life and crimes of master thief Stéphane Breitwieser. Breitwieser and his girlfriend, Anna-Catherine Kleinklaus, carried out more than two hundred heists over eight years and stole more than three hundred objects. This book goes over his life, his many heists, and his eventual capture and imprisonment.
I remember when this case was in the headlines but I was very young and didn’t really understand the importance of it at the time. So I found this book quite fascinating, especially in learning how easily he stole so many of these items. I am also very surprised that it took so long for him to be caught with how many times he did risky things with stolen items on his person.
Overall, this was fascinating and I really learned a lot about art theft. I appreciated the author’s note on reporting where he discusses his interviews with Breitwieser and other people involved with this investigation and trials. Also it’s a bit terrible that his mother or ex-girlfriend were never charged for the roles they played.
