Graydon, gryphon and First Sentinel of the Wyr, has been hiding his desire for Beluviel, consort to the Elven High Lord, because it was forbidden. But two hundred years ago they worked together to try and save Beluviel’s stepson from a pariah djinn and instead found their fates linked together, and their hunger for each other even harder to ignore. Now two centuries later, they might finally be able to get rid of their debt to Malphas. 

This couple was one I wasn’t expecting because these two have not had any page time together up to this point. While I was a bit skeptical going into this book, I actually found these two enjoyable. Graydon and Beluviel have a forbidden romance that was filled with a lot of love and longing. They waited years for each other and it just made their feelings stronger. I don’t normally read forbidden romances, but this one kept me hooked and I enjoyed it all.

Outside of the romance between Graydon and Beluviel, we finally see something being done about the pariah djinn Malphas who has caused quite a few problems throughout this series. This book really lays out his many crimes and why it is so dangerous for him to have all of these debts. The more I learn about djinn in this world the more it makes me wonder why people would strike bargains with them. The fight against Malphas was just as dangerous as you would expect, especially since djinn are so hard to kill. The cost was high, higher than I was expecting actually, but it was a very interesting battle that kept me hooked to the story. 

Overall, this was not the story I was expecting but I did enjoy it. The couple was a surprise but worked well together and I loved how emotional their story was. I am very curious to see what will happen next in the world, especially with the deal between Liam and his father.
