4 stars – It was really good

While taking a break on a space station, Tarekh comes across slavers who have an injured human female. After buying her, she spits in his face and it’s love at first sight, at least on his end. Tarekh knows he is ugly though and will never be chosen, so he decides to just be the best friend he can be while she recovers and starts her new life.

This was a surprisingly sweet story. Tarekh was such a sweet cinnamon roll who was patient and also protective. Catrin is a survivor who has had to do terrible things to survive her time as a slave. She struggles at first with the fact she is free but Tarekh is so patient with her. Catrin was just a strong and wonderful woman who overcame her trauma.

I really enjoyed the progression of their relationship from friends to lovers. It was really well done and I liked that it wasn’t rushed. It took months for them to get there but it was worth it. I really can’t wait to see more of these two in the next book. Also I liked getting to check in with Fran and Kivian.

TW: abduction, slavery, rape and physical abuse mentioned;
