Gahn Taliok never expects to have a mate, but the Lavrika has other plans for him. He is mated to a strange and beautiful woman named Melanie but while he feels the mate bond instantly, she doesn’t. Now he has to figure out how to win her love but she has high walls that will take time to overcome.

Taliok and Melanie’s story was surprisingly sweet and enjoyable. Taliok recognizes Melanie instantly as the one the Lavrika showed him and instantly feels the bond set in place. Melanie on the other hand doesn’t and because of her past she keeps her distance from him. These two have a slow-ish building relationship as they get to know each other. I really loved how Taliok took the time to get to know Melanie and understand her passion for geology. He even helps her look for rocks, which is so sweet.

Unlike the previous book, we get the whole book of these two getting to know each other and learning the ways of each other’s bodies as they get closer. I really enjoyed their relationship, especially since they could communicate clearly throughout and there wasn’t a language barrier causing problems this time.

Overall, I enjoyed this one and will read more. I am very interested in learning more about the new alien that was introduced briefly in this one.

TW: toxic family and ex mentioned; death of a parent mentioned;
