3 stars – I liked it

When her own government kidnaps her, Cece finds herself and a bunch of other women being shipped to an alien planet ruled by barbarian warlords with tails. The mission is supposed to be for research but it quickly goes wrong and she finds herself stuck with an alien warlord who will not leave her side.

This was a very interesting concept for an alien romance. It’s usually the aliens doing the kidnapping but this time it was human governments. While this is a unique concept and very original, I also found a lot of this book to be unoriginal in other aspects, but I still enjoyed it. It was just a weird blend of new and stereotypical alien romances.

Cece is a linguistics Ph.D. student and was kidnapped in the expectation she would be able to learn the alien language to talk to them. While she does learn a few words, it is a slow process and there is a language barrier for part of this story, at least until she magically learns the whole language with some help. I liked the language barrier at first  and how they learned about each other without using language.

Buroudei is the strong, protective, alien warlord who sounds scary but is actually saying really sweet things to Cece half the time. I really loved how sweet he was. Cece and Buroudei have a fated mates relationship that is very fast paced but with the language barrier Cece does take a few days to come to terms with her feelings and what is happening.

I enjoyed this one and will be reading the next one to find out what will happen next to this group of women and who will be the next mate.
