Title: Take Me to the Cabin
Author: Kaci Rose
Series: Mountain Men of Whiskey River #2
Pages: 334

When Jenna realizes she doesn’t want to marry her fiancé, she finds herself escaping to Whiskey River and starting a new life. When she meets Phoenix she is instantly attracted but will they be able to overcome their pasts.
Like the first book this was an enjoyable and low stress romance. Jenna is trying to start a new life away from her controlling and toxic family and the high society life they had. Phoenix has spent his adult life living alone on a mountain and has never been in a relationship before. When he meets Jenna he is instantly attracted to her and she to him. I liked how sweet Phoenix was and that his protectiveness wasn’t overbearing. These two had a faced relationship that was filled with some very sweet scenes and a little bit of tension when it comes to their future together. I quite enjoyed their relationship and how low-angst it was.
This book also gives us more POV’s with Emelie, which while I don’t mind having more perspectives it did cause some inconsistencies between scenes. I think this book might have been slightly better with less of Emelie’s POV because I did find myself not realizing it was her chapter and got confused by the context because I thought she was Jenna.
Overall, this was a good contemporary romance with instant love and low stress. I will be reading the next one because I need more low-angst books right now.
TW: toxic and controlling family and ex-fiancé; death of parents in car accident discussed; side character’s brother has terminal cancer and dies;
