3 stars – I liked it

This book picks up shortly after the previous book. Parker and Adam are now living on a boat along the coast and making infrequent trips to land to scavenge for supplies. While they are safer on water, they quickly realize that it isn’t the creepers they need to be concerned with. But when a broadcast of a safe island keeps playing, they find they may have a safe haven.

Unlike the first book which focused on their journey across the country and avoiding zombies, this book focused more on the emotional side of their relationship and what they plan to do next. Parker and Adam have been through a lot and they are both dealing with the effects of that. Parker is struggling with PTSD from people dying, the experimentation done on Adam, and his newest attack on the boat. He is dealing with anxiety and struggles to trust anyone besides Adam. Parker may be young but everything that has happened to him really has changed him and aged him emotionally.

Another surprise about this book is that we get Adam’s POV and it really helped me connect to his character and how he deals with things. While he may not be so emotionally expressive with his worries like Parker, we do see him worrying about keeping Parker safe and finding a safe haven for them to live. We also see him really crave the feeling of a pack and starting to understand his werewolf side now that he is no longer trying to hide it.

Parker and Adam’s relationship continues to grow stronger with everything they overcome. We do see some tension and arguments in this one but it wasn’t drawn out, which I appreciated. I have really grown to like this couple and know they are just going to get better with each book.

Overall, this was a very emotional read, even if it wasn’t as action packed as the first one. I am really looking forward to seeing what happens next for them now that they are on Salvation Island and seem to be safe from the creepers.
